Travel Insurance – Make Sure You Get What You Need
When I book my own holiday or flights I tend to avoid taking out insurance as I always get the impression that the insurance I am being offered at the time is not going to be the best value. Am I correct in this assumption or quite mistaken? Here are a few tips to take note of when booking or even considering taking out travel insurance.
One thing to avoid doing is to book your travel insurance at the same time as you are booking your holiday or flight tickets. You will no doubt be offered insurance then and there but its wise to politely decline the offer. The best way to find the cheapest and best one to suit your needs is to go online and search via a travel insurance broker. This way you will have a big choice and time to ensure you get what you want.
Check to see if any of your existing insurance policies cover your travel. You may have coverage already on some other form of insurance so its worth taking a little time to look at your documents to find out.
Once you have yourself a short list if you need to get travel insurance, its good policy to make sure there is adequate medical insurance, which should also include the cost of medical evacuation. Depending on where you are going, if you end up needing to be evacuated back to your home country and you have no insurance to cover you, the costs could be prohibitive.
Are you sure you are covered for all holiday activities? Such activities as scuba diving are rarely covered and have to be included as an add-on. If you are golfing then your clubs will have to be an add-on unless you have a specialist insurance policy to cover them.
Read the small print! As boring and tedious as this may seem its good policy to read the small print before signing for any type of insurance. Also, make sure you get your insurance cover from a reputable company. If this company also has a good reputation in the country you are travelling to then all the better.
