The Excitement Of Fantasy Baseball Leagues
If you are like the millions of sports fans out there who just cannot get enough, perhaps it is time you considered joining a fantasy league. You have heard about them, but what is all the fuss? Well, for starters, you can find one to cover pretty much any sport you love. Yes, that is right: just about any sport. Golf, football, hockey, tennis, horse racing, soccer, basketball, racecar driving and of course baseball. Fantasy baseball leagues are all over the place.
Fantasy leagues give the fans something to add to all the excitement of baseball. Imagine how unbelievable it would be if all your favorites were on the same team? What if you could take your two hometown favorites and put them in the same lineup and the AL batting champ and the NLs homerun leader? What if you could then add to this team a Cy Young winner, the best closer in the major leagues and a new left handed pitcher that is supposed to be the next Whitey Ford? In a fantasy league, you may very well be able to assemble such a team. Or at least come pretty close.
It all begins by finding a website that offers fantasy games. Usually any sports themed website will have them and many other sites will too. Network TV channels, internet services companies, and community sites as well as others are all trying to get in on the action.
Once you decide where you want to play, simply sign up and create your team (s). You can give your team any name you wish, such as the Louisville Fighters, Barbaras Moon Walkers, or something only you understand like Is It Scary. The good sites will let you design a team logo, jersey or helmet.
Not long before baseball season begins, fantasy players are put into groups. You can pick what group to join, or let the computer randomly place you into one. Groups are made into divisions such as East and West. The draft is one of the most fun aspects of the game. A live draft is especially fun as those involved feel as though they really are in a room full of baseball players and picking teams.
The draft works like an actual draft with teams making selections in turn for several rounds until the draft is completed. It can be a nail biting experience to sit and wait your next turn while wondering if a team before you plans to select the player that you are hoping to pick next. For people who cannot make the live draft, there are automatic drafts that will make your picks for you. All you need to do is rank the players beforehand and your top choices will be selected based on availability.
Now it is all up to the real baseball players to perform. Obviously if you hope to win, you need to follow what goes on with your team. If one of your players is hurt, you need to place him on injured reserve and get a substitute. Keeping up on sports news will also help your results. If somebody on your team is suspended and will not be playing, you need to get a backup in there ASAP. And most likely, somebody on your team will not be playing very well and you may want to get rid of him. You can put him on waivers and pick up someone new or you can offer a trade with one of your opponents for one of his players.
The fun carries on into the playoffs. Prizes are generally given to the person who wins the entire game and smaller prizes may be awarded to winners of individual leagues. Fantasy baseball leagues give fans a way to be a part of all the action even while sitting at home.
