The Mac Computer as a Gaming Platform
Video games for the Mac are becoming more common in the marketplace. They’re available in any gaming category you might want, including action, adventure, role-playing, sports and kid games, and Macintosh offers a vibrant and diverse gaming experience. The newest versions of the Macintosh also offer an application which is easy for users to install and lets them run Windows games on their Mac computers. Previous versions of the Mac weren’t as game friendly, but current Macs have made it easier to port many video games. The Macintosh, whether it’s running the Mac OS or a system that runs Windows, provides performance that is about the same as that of similarly-equipped Windows PCs.
Ideally, Macintosh video games are developed simultaneously with the Windows version. When this is done, the original programmers are available for any questions or troubleshooting that may arise while the game is being created. Normally, it also allows a simultaneous rollout of the Windows and Macintosh versions to the market. This may be the ideal situation, but it rarely happens. Only a few companies develop games simultaneously for Mac and Windows computers.
