College Sports Scholarships: Crucial Information for Talented Athletes

If it is your goal to receive one of the various college athletic scholarships from a school of specific interest, there are some things that you need to keep in mind which will help you in your search. It is important to note first that the percentage of high school athletes who qualify for sports scholarships at the college level is a very small three percent. While this number is very small, it still is possible to receive sports scholarships, but you will need to know some facts that will help you narrow the playing field.

It is not wise to spend all of your efforts on the big schools alone. While these institutions do offer a larger number of college athletic scholarships than smaller schools, it is advisable that you also look at the smaller ones because they offer grants, too. You want to find an athletic recruiting college that falls under the Division I and Division II ranking. If you look at institutions that fall into Division III and lower, many of these offer financial aid programs for athletes but not necessarily scholarships and grants.

Important Information on Securing a Sports Scholarship

There are a good number of athletic scholarships that you can find in various colleges if you are a talented athlete. If you want to continue playing a sport you enjoy and are particularly good at, you can apply for a college athletic scholarship so you can benefit from free or reduced tuition fees at the same time.

College sports scholarships are a win-win type of situation for both a student athlete and the college itself. The student avails of tuition perks, while the school can boast of the acclaim whenever the student athlete wins a state-wide competition.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) can give you the chance to avail of these types of athletic scholarships. Being the primary athletic conference in the U.S., the NCAA does not offer athletic aid in the strictest sense of the word, but will give you, as a qualified student athlete, assistance in the form of grants or financial support that will be based on your athletic performance. Most of these grants and aids cover as much as 50% of tuition fees.

Key Steps To Get A Golf Scholarship

Junior golf continues to grow in large part thanks to Tiger Woods. As more and more student-athletes join Junior golf, there is an obvious increase in competition for college golf scholarships. Because of this fact, I thought it would be important to share with you some of the common parameters a college golf coach is looking for in new recruits.

Please, understand that what I am sharing with you are only parameters. They are not set in stone, and I think it is valuable to have something to shoot for as you continue to develop your golf game.

I know intangibles are an important part of a college coaches recruiting process. I speak from experience. I am a 6′ guy that played quarterback in the Pac-10. Typically, coaches want their quarterbacks in the Pac-10 to be at least 6′2″.

I hope this gives you HOPE even if your scores do not currently match up to what college coaches are looking for in their prospective golfers.

Keep in mind, that the BASICS of college recruiting still apply…even if you are within the given guidelines. It is important that you still excel in the class room, and YES, coaches want to see video your swings. Once you get some video done of your swings, begin to promote yourself to college coaches all over the country.
