Large Room Decorating – Get That Cozy Feeling
Many homes these days are made with larger spacious rooms and very high ceilings and of course wooden floors. They are great living spaces since you have a large space to design with many different ideas.
People, well most of us anyway want a room that feels cozy. There are ways to make the room seem more cozy, by just using a few decorating tips. Painting the walls a dark shade will help to make the room seem a bit smaller. With a dark color the room seems to warm up a bit more.
If the walls are a lighter color you’ll feel that the area is never ending. This is because light will reflect off of lighter colored walls rather than darker, richer colors. If you have those high ceilings and you feel that they are too far away from the rest of the room, try painting them a darker color rather than the traditional white.
Buy plants that are large, and other accessories that you can add that are also large in size. Stay away from a small size because this will only have the affect of seeming more cluttered.
Another secret is using oversized furniture that rather swallows up the space. You might use groupings of furniture. In a very large room, like a great room, you can make an area for watching television, an area for reading or intimate conversations, or perhaps an area for playing board games.
Now that you have created little areas in the room you need to have a way to specify the areas and anchor them. Area rugs are the answer here. An area rug will not only add warmth and interest, it will pull the pieces of each grouping together. Place an area rug in each group and keep the pattern and tones cohesive, and your room will be instantly transformed into a large, yet cozy room.
Using more than one area rug in a large room takes some careful consideration. The rugs need to flow together and not seem like they are duking it out for your attention. Matching your area rugs to the furniture group and the purpose of the grouping shouldn’t be too difficult. In a room that is 12×24 for instance, you could easily use one area rug that is 6 x 9 and one 9 x 12. Or, you could use two that are 8 x10.
The area rugs that you choose can be very similar in their pattern, color and texture. The closer rugs are in these characteristics, the more cohesive the rugs will feel. Using area rugs that are exactly the same size and too close together will tend to split the room so one bigger than the other is a better choice.
If your area rugs are exactly the same or just too similar, you will lose the allure of your groupings. The ultimate choice would be a large area rug with a border design and the smaller with an overall all design that carries the same colors but in an inverse design. Once you have placed your rugs, you can sit back and enjoy your new cozy atmosphere.
Interior Decorating experts all agree that it is essential to use area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular ranges is the woolen braided area rugs.
