How to Make a Seadoo in Twenty Short Years
If you ever thought that a seadoo looks a lot like a snowmobile, you might have wondered if this was coincidental or not. The fact is, the inventor of the seadoo was a prominent player in the snowmobile industry, having many years experience in the production and evolution of the Bombardier snowmobile.
The Bombardier family name may be more commonly associated with the aeronautical industry now, but they got their start in snowmobiles. Their claim to fame was the introduction of the Ski-Doo brand of snowmobile, with the trademark black and yellow paint scheme. Having perfected a winter recreational vehicle for snow, it was only natural that this Canadian manufacturer make an attempt at creating a summer vehicle for water.
The first Seadoo prototype was launched in the early 1960s. These machines were launched with a lot of hype and a great and sexy advertising promotion. Seadoos were the cool thing to have. The concept was great and the efforts to sell the image were great but unfortunately the machine itself had some serious design flaws. The body of the machine was susceptible to corrosion especially for those machines that were used in the ocean. In addition, the engine was not cooled effectively and had a tendency to overheat.
Seadoos were only on the market for two years in the 1960s before they were taken off the market to be re-designed. The re-design process did not seem to be a priority as it was over twenty years before a new model was launched. In the mid-1980s, the modern day Seadoo was introduced and newer models have been introduced almost every year since then.
Along with Seadoo PWCs, Bombardier now produces a number of different products under the Seadoo umbrella. There are Seadoos in assorted sizes with assorted engine strengths. There is also other watercraft manufactured by the Bombardier company. Seadoo brand has launched a whole series of boats.
The evolution of the Seadoo PWC is an important part of leisure history in Canada. The company made a few mistakes in the 1960s and almost gave up on the project. Much like other popular brands, the name Seadoo has become synonymous with personal watercrafts and also brands a number of different products. The Seadoo name now graces T-shirts, sun glasses and Seadoo covers along with personal watercraft.
