Although a lot of people now enjoy music through MP3s and CDs, there are still a few who play vinyl records from time to time. The reason is that, they just can’t do away with their all-time favorites, and probably these have become big parts of their collections. Old stuff as they may seem, still they require proper care and cleaning. So, if you are among those who still keep vinyl records in their homes, here are some effective ways to help you keep them in good condition:

1. The proper way to store your vinyl record is done in a vertical direction. This is to avoid too much weight on the other records if done horizontally. If you do otherwise, chances are they’ll get damaged and bend over time. And another thing, your vinyl should not be allowed to lean because this is another common cause of damage.

2. Never place your vinyl near the window or the heater. It is because heat can cause them to get softer, making them more prone to bending and damage. Also, keep them away from humidity as much as possible. This causes mold formation in vinyl, so be sure to keep them in cooler portion of your home.

3. Remember: do not to store your vinyl records outside their sleeves or liners. This will cause them to acquire dirt and scratches easily. More dirt and scratches means a bad sounding and a skipping vinyl record. So, make sure to keep them protected from dirt, scratches, and even too much exposure to sunlight.

4. When handling your vinyl records, take extra care. Avoid handling them by the edges and also make sure not to drop them. Treat them as if they are very fragile because once they get a lot of scratches that also means bye-bye to your all-time favorite hits.

5. Clean your vinyl records even if you don’t use them often. You can use a cleaner to remove dirt, grease, and other contaminants. If not, you can always use some distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. These also do a great job in cleaning your records in no time.

Keeping your vinyl records in great condition is one of the most effective ways to ensure that they will continue to sound good for many years. So, make sure to keep these important tips in mind.
