Decorating with Decorating Color Scheme

21st Dec, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Home Decor

Use decorating color schemes to create a cohesive look without having to shell out money for an expensive decorator. The use of color can make your room feel entirely different. Use the items you already have but change the colors for an inexpensive makeover.

When you are creating a decorating color scheme don’t forget to choose a wood tone. This can brighten up your room or add a touch of elegance. If you want a cottage or shabby chic look then your wood tone would probably be a pickled white wood to keep the room looking airy. You can even use this same color to bring in natural elements like sisal rugs and bamboo blinds. A dark wood floor can look contemporary but if you are working with a traditional room then keep things in a basic medium tone.

A modern way to put together a decorating color scheme is by picking a few pieces that pop. This works well if you can’t paint the walls which are a common problem in living in a rental space. The inability to paint doesn’t mean that your room has to be lifeless. Hang up modern roman shades in a funky turquoise and then bring the same color throughout the room by the use of porcelain lamps and oversized throw pillows.

The color wheel can help you create a decorating color scheme. Complementary colors are straight across from each other and will work well together while creating vibrancy such as gold and eggplant. If you want calmer rooms then try analogous colors like eggplant and cobalt which are neighbors on the color wheel.

You’ll need to find equilibrium in your room if you use daring tones or several different muted shades. If your area is oversaturated then people may not want to spend time there. the use of neutral colors will break up the space and add an airy feeling. Taupes, creams and black make sure that you create a room that you’ll want to spend time in.
